Pom Pom blankets, known as batania, are woven exlusively in a small village of tameslouht near Marrakesh. trimmed with dramatically oversized pom poms, the heirloom textiles are a stylized rendition of the traditional wool blankets used to protect against freezing temperatures in the high atlas mountains.
Berber womens' harvesting these wools from the Atlas Mountain sheeps, named as Beni Meskine. Weaving is done by hand on traditional wooden pedal looms, using techniques that have changed little in centuries.
